Freya Herrmann is a Berlin-based costume designer and scriptwriter.
After studying Scenic Arts at the University of Hildesheim and the Iceland University of the Arts, Herrmann began working in costume design, creating looks for productions such as DRUCK, SCHWARZE FRÜCHTE, MARZAHN MON AMOUR and DOPPELHAUSHÄLFTE, where she is also active as a writer.
Herrmann’s interest in costume is, above all, anthropological. She is interested in questions of representation, staging of class, and the beauty in the seemingly ugly.
Since 2020, she has been producing the podcast „Fashion the Gaze“ together with Vera Klocke, exploring the politics of representation and staging.
